Maisie Chan won the 2022 Branford Boase Award with Danny Chung Does Not Do Maths which went on to win the Jhalak Prize too. Her latest novel Keep Dancing, Lizzie Chu is out now with Piccadilly Press. She also writes the series TIGER WARRIOR under the name M. Chan. She has written early readers for Hachette and Big Cat Collins, and has a collection of myths and legends out with Scholastic. Maisie runs the Bubble Tea Writers Network to support and encourage writers of East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) descent in the U.K. She lives in Glasgow with her family.
Sajeda Amir is an English teacher and KS3 coordinator at Levenshulme High School for girls in Manchester. Sajeda has taught in inner city Manchester schools for over a decade. She is a big proponent of developing students’ wider cultural capital and has worked with many diverse authors, bringing their voices in to schools for students to experience. She has worked extensively with both Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Manchester in delivering their outreach programmes to students in school and has worked with Manchester Poetry Library to create student anthologies of poetry for the wider public to access. Outside of school, Sajeda is a mother to three children and you’ll often find them library hopping across Manchester on the weekends.
Darren Matthews is a Primary Advisory Teacher at the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE). Along with the rest of the teaching team, he writes book-based teaching plans, devises and delivers training programmes and works with schools to develop best practice in all aspects of literacy teaching. Darren has had considerable experience teaching across the primary years and, prior to working at CLPE, held roles including English Subject Lead, drama specialist and Deputy Headteacher working in the London Borough of Havering.
Joanne Owen is a writer, reviewer and workshop presenter whose lifelong love of books began when she was growing up in Pembrokeshire, Wales. With a background in children’s publishing, she’s the author of several books for children and young adults, among them the Martha Mayhem series, the Carnegie Medal-nominated Puppet Master, and You Can Write Awesome Stories.
Julia Eccleshare is a regular contributor to Radio 4’s Front Row and Open Book programmes. She is the children’s director of the Hay Festival and head of Public Lending Right policy and advocacy.
